Valheim 1.0.16: What Changed for Terrain, Raids, and Crossplay
September's post-launch patch addresses unstable ground and excess enemy spawns, while Iron Gate confirms more updates are coming.

Valheim Terrain and Raids
Valheim's September 25 patch, version 1.0.16, dealt with a particularly frustrating kind of survival-game problem: changes to the world that would not stay changed. Its Deep North terrain fix sits alongside a correction for excessive enemy spawns, making this an update worth understanding before returning to an established settlement.
Terrain Repairs May Still Need a Hand
The official 1.0.16 notes say terrain modifications could revert after an area unloaded. Iron Gate also warned that existing terrain seams might need manual attention with a pickaxe, hoe, or by walking over snow. Preventing the bug and repairing every visible result are not the same thing.
For builders, that distinction matters: an uneven patch of ground after updating does not automatically mean the underlying fix failed. Check the affected location before assuming a whole build needs to be moved.
The patch also addressed excessive enemy spawning, especially during raids, and several achievement problems. Child of Odin and Comfort is King received fixes, while the unobtainable Blue Mushroom was removed from The Gourmet's requirements.

Crossplay Was Kept Working During Rollout
Iron Gate said internal restrictions meant the patch would take several days to reach every platform. Its explicit message was that crossplay would remain functional during that staggered rollout. That was guidance for this release, not a promise that every future version mismatch will work the same way.
A group returning after a break should still check which version each player has installed. The useful takeaway from this announcement is that a platform delay did not, by itself, require friends to abandon their shared session.
What Comes After the Launch Fixes
In its September 30 developer message, Iron Gate said bug fixes and balance work would continue following version 1.0. It also confirmed further content updates without revealing what they would contain.
The studio is changing how it communicates, too. Its recurring Words from the Devs posts will no longer follow a monthly schedule; new entries will appear when there is news to share. A quiet month should therefore not be read as an announcement that support has ended.
For now, the practical priority is the world already on your server: inspect troublesome terrain, revisit blocked achievements, and describe any repeatable problems in a bug report. New content remains a separate promise from the repairs delivered in 1.0.16.
