Zero Escape: The Nonary Games brings together two escape-the-room visual novels: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999) and its sequel, Virtue’s Last Reward (VLR). Both center on nine kidnapped strangers forced into a deadly contest by the mysterious Zero. As danger mounts, they must work out how to escape and uncover why they were selected, while trust among the group becomes part of the tension.
The hands-on play revolves around searching locked rooms for clues and solving puzzles to find a way out. That escape-room structure sits alongside a twisting narrative of theories and pseudo-science, with the identity of Zero and the connection between the games among the central mysteries. VLR also offers two difficulty settings, so its puzzle challenge can be adjusted.
The collection pairs its two related stories while preserving distinct editions of the Nonary Game, including the Ambidex Edition. The original 999 has been updated with high-resolution graphics and Japanese and English voice acting, giving the collection’s first story a refreshed presentation.
