Yooka-Laylee is an open-world platformer starring Yooka, a green hero, and Laylee, a wisecracking bat. The pair set out to stop Capital B from absorbing the world’s books for profit, exploring colourful worlds populated by unusual characters and formidable bosses. Its lighthearted buddy-duo premise gives the adventure a strong personality, while the search for Pagies supplies a clear purpose for exploring.
Platforming and puzzles are built around the duo’s special moves, which players can purchase and unlock. Pagies open new worlds, and players can choose to expand favourite areas into larger, more complex playgrounds. Collectibles such as Butterfly Energy and Ghost Writers add further goals, while Tonic modifiers let players customise their play style. The varied activities include minecart challenges, arcade games and quiz shows, giving exploration detours beyond the main platforming challenges.
The game supports solo play as well as co-op, where a second player takes control of a separate character and can stun enemies or help with tricky challenges. It also lists multiplayer and PvP modes, including shared-screen options, alongside co-op.
