Ylands sets its adventure in a stylized world of distinct regions, each with its own resources and wildlife. Players can gather materials, craft equipment, and build a home, then travel farther by constructing a ship. The game frames exploration as a relaxed, social pursuit, while its lore and location-specific encounters give journeys more to uncover than scenery alone.
Its Adventure mode supports play alone or with friends, bringing exploration, crafting, building, and sailing together. Travel between islands can lead to random encounters, and caves and other areas feature enemies that make suitable equipment important. Creative Mode takes a different approach by making all resources available, while Community Games showcase experiences made with the Editor. That tool also lets players create blueprints for ships, buildings, and other structures for use in Adventure mode.
Its additional creative and community-made modes broaden that picture beyond a single co-op experience, without changing the game’s central appeal of making things and setting out to discover what lies beyond the next shore.
