Kazuma Kiryu returns to a city transformed by a decade behind bars, after taking the fall for murder. With rival yakuza clans nearing war, Yakuza Kiwami frames its action around a journey through love, humanity and betrayal, set in Kamurocho, a bustling red-light district in modern-day Japan. The personal stakes and looming conflict give the street-level setting a dramatic purpose.
Combat lets Kiryu switch dynamically among four styles: Brawler, Rush, Beast and Dragon. Their distinct descriptions suggest different approaches, from Brawler’s brutality and Rush’s speed to Beast’s power and Dragon’s legendary standing. Makeshift weapons found around the streets add another option against groups of enemies, while the store describes the fighting as designed to be approachable as well as exhilarating.
The game balances its central story with a broad selection of city activities, including karaoke, a casino, a cabaret club, an arcade and batting cages, alongside encounters with Kamurocho’s colorful residents.
