Set in 1988, Yakuza 0 follows Kazuma Kiryu after a routine debt collection spirals into trouble when the debtor is found murdered. The story also shifts to Goro Majima, whose supposedly ordinary life revolves around running a cabaret club. Moving between these two perspectives gives the game a crime-drama framework, while its settings in Tokyo and Osaka fill that framework with a vivid portrait of Japan’s nightlife.
Combat is built around immediate changes between three fighting styles, letting Kiryu and Majima answer groups of thugs with different approaches. The streets themselves become part of the action: bicycles, sign posts and car doors can be turned into weapons for forceful combos and takedowns. Away from fights, discos, hostess clubs and SEGA arcades offer diversions, while encounters with residents lead into a collection of unusual side stories. That contrast between brawling and offbeat city life is central to the game’s character.
Yakuza 0 is listed with both single-player and multi-player categories, alongside a story centered on its two protagonists and a wealth of individual activities.
