X-Morph: Defense casts the player as an alien invader harvesting Earth’s resources while human forces fight to protect their home. Its central hook is a blend of top-down arcade shooting and tower-defense planning: players defend harvesters, but also take direct control of a fighter and attack incoming units themselves. The result is a strategy game with an active combat role rather than a defense setup viewed from afar.
Before each enemy wave, a setup phase reveals the approaching enemy types and their routes, with no time limit. Towers can be placed across the map, and laser fences link them to redirect enemy paths; players can build winding mazes or choose specialized defenses for particular threats. During battle, the alien fighter can switch among four forms with distinct strengths, while destructible buildings and bridges can alter the battlefield. That mix of route planning, tower placement, direct combat and environmental destruction gives each encounter several connected tactical demands.
The game supports single-player and shared-screen co-op. Its co-op missions are designed around larger enemy groups and attacks from new directions, with partners able to divide tower planning and shooting or concentrate on the same threats.
