Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem casts the player as one of the survivors of the slaughter of Castagath, recruited into the Republic’s Army of the Purifiers. The campaign’s conflict centers on a retaliation mission against the Brotherhood of Dawn, with the player and childhood friends Valeria and Edric deployed under Justicar Maëlys. That military backdrop gives the action an urgent, supernatural-fantasy frame.
Character building is classless: weapons determine which skill types are available, while distinct stances and combos let players shape a preferred fighting style. Rage and Willpower oppose one another through the Resource Opposition System, and Stamina supports dodge-rolls for evasion or faster travel. A rotating passive tree, customizable skill modifiers, varied equipment and four celestial incarnations offer further ways to tailor a character. Fights also demand attention to enemy patterns, attack markers and animations, rather than relying on offense alone.
The game pairs its campaign with Story and Normal difficulty settings, then describes an endgame built around progressively harder challenges, gear improvement and build experimentation. The combination of tactical dodging and extensive character customization is central to its design.
