Within the Blade casts players as a shinobi of the Black Lotus clan amid a Japan torn apart by civil war. The threat is Mamoru Imai, leader of the Steel Claw, whose allegiance with demons fuels a spreading campaign of violence. The clan’s mission is sabotage and assassination, giving the game’s stealth-and-platforming premise a clear purpose: weaken the warlord before the country collapses.
Progression connects combat choices to preparation. Killing enemies and completing levels award experience, which can unlock more advanced ninjutsu and other abilities. Players gather ingredients along the way to craft gear ranging from shurikens, poisons, and grenades to the Ninjato and Kusarigama. Between levels, the shinobi returns to a home village to purchase weapons and items, making each stage part of a loop that alternates field operations with upgrading and resupply.
Stealth is more than a route around combat: hiding in shadows and striking at a critical moment can help earn experience, while different enemy types call for different tactics. Boss encounters, dynamic battles, and a broad crafting system round out a design built around switching between concealment, close-quarters attacks, and preparation.
