Set in the port town of Amihama during the mid-19th century, Way of the Samurai 4 casts you as a master-less samurai amid tensions between the shogunate, Japanese isolationists and foreign settlers. The arrival of Western ships has changed the town, but its residents disagree over what should come next. Choosing whom to support, or betray, places the player at the center of a conflict whose outcome can redirect the story.
That branching structure is the game’s defining hook: key-event decisions lead to multiple endings, making political allegiance part of the adventure rather than mere background. Combat supplies another concrete strand, with a dynamic system and a range of melee and gunpowder weapons. Sword collecting and extensive character customization add personal choices alongside the larger decisions about Amihama’s future, while the series’ quirky humor gives this historical setting an unconventional tone.
The PC edition is a single-player action-adventure, so its play format is a solo, choice-driven journey rather than a shared multiplayer session. The PC listing also notes keyboard and gamepad support, achievements and cloud saves, complementing the game’s mix of exploration, combat and story choices.
