WARNO imagines the Cold War turning hot in divided Germany in 1989, where NATO and Warsaw Pact forces prepare for a wider conflict. This real-time strategy game puts the player in command of a customized battlegroup, drawing on the distinct arsenals of six nations. Its premise is more than a backdrop: the opposing alliances and their equipment define the choices commanders face across tactical battles.
Battlegroup building and battlefield decisions are central to play. Players select forces from infantry, tanks, aircraft, artillery and air-defense units, then contend with terrain and objectives ranging from forests and villages to bridges and industrial areas. A shifting frontline, ambushes and outflanking maneuvers make positioning part of the contest. Army General adds a turn-based strategic layer, while scripted Operations frame tactical missions within the conflict.
WARNO supports solo, cooperative and multiplayer Skirmish, alongside matches against AI or human opponents, from smaller team formats to 10v10 battles. The game’s mix of real-time tactical command and turn-based campaigns gives those modes a shared Cold War setting, but distinct scales of decision-making.
