Set in Warhammer Fantasy’s End Times, Vermintide follows five heroes confronting a Skaven invasion in and around Ubersreik. The rat-men have overwhelmed the city, and survival depends on a group of unlikely champions standing together. This apocalyptic backdrop gives the action a clear purpose: push back against the invading hordes while trying to keep the heroes alive.
Combat blends first-person shooting with melee fighting, and each hero brings a distinct play style, abilities and weapon selection. Swords, axes, bows, firearms and magical staves offer different ways to approach the fighting, while teamwork is central to surviving the Skaven. Missions span varied settings, from the heights of Magnus Tower to the underground Under Empire. After missions, loot dice award equipment, and completing side objectives can improve the team’s reward roll.
The game supports cooperative sessions for up to four players, with drop-in, drop-out play and AI bots helping maintain a team. Its defining appeal is the contrast between varied hero arsenals and a shared fight for survival, where coordination matters as much as individual combat choices.
