Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II sets the Adeptus Mechanicus against the Necrons on a world the latter seek to reclaim. Vargard Nefershah awakens her dynasty’s legions, while Magos Dominus Faustinius is called upon to counter them. The conflict is told through two narrative campaigns, with players choosing which faction to lead and seeing the war from opposing sides.
Battles are turn-based, and each faction has a distinct play-style and abilities to master. The surroundings are more than scenery: Mechanicus forces can use terrain for cover, while Necrons can destroy it, making movement and positioning part of the tactical problem. Between missions, players fight over regions, capture or defend territory, manage resources and garrisons, and assemble forces suited to the next engagement. Faustinius leads Tech-Priest characters that can be deployed and upgraded; Nefershah can customise a court of Necron nobles.
That pairing of tactical battles and a broader campaign gives the game a deliberately dual perspective: defend the tombs as the Necrons or push back their awakening as the Mechanicus, with choices shaping the war’s course and outcome.
