In Chaos Rising, the Blood Ravens return to Sub-Sector Aurelia after a frozen planet reappears from the Warp. Their fight is not only against the Black Legion’s Chaos Space Marines: traitors within the chapter threaten to bring the Blood Ravens down. That tension gives the campaign its defining premise, pairing a sector-wide defense with a struggle to keep the force itself together.
The expansion continues the single-player campaign through 15 new missions. Players command squads and draw on their wargear, abilities, and experience against Chaos, bringing tactical squad progression into the conflict. Multiplayer adds Chaos Space Marines as a playable race, facing armies from both Chaos Rising and Dawn of War II; additional units also join the Space Marine, Ork, Eldar, and Tyranid forces. The Last Stand mode has two new heroes, the Chaos Sorcerer and Tyranid Hive Tyrant, to take against the horde.
The game is listed with single-player, multiplayer, and co-op categories, but its central documented additions are the Chaos-focused missions, the new multiplayer race, and the two Last Stand heroes.
