Volcanoids turns survival on a volcanic island into a contest between a crew and the landscape’s recurring eruptions. The island changes as players explore, but the central refuge is not a fixed camp: it is a steampunk drillship that can travel underground. That pairing gives the game’s base-building premise a distinctly mobile, hazard-focused shape.
On the surface and below, hostile mining robots patrol and fight back. Players can take their resources and technology, while destroying the rest; meanwhile, exploration brings new island areas, supplies, and secrets into reach. The drillship is both a shelter and a project to develop, with systems for customization, upgrades, expansion, automation, and weaponry across technology tiers.
The game supports solo play or crews of up to four, with online co-op listed among its modes. Volcanoids’ defining rhythm remains the push to explore, prepare the drillship, and evade eruptions while machines threaten from above and below.
