Viscera Cleanup Detail begins after a sci-fi horror disaster has already been won: an alien infestation and the fight against it have left a space facility strewn with blood, remains and spent cartridges. Rather than play the heroic battle, you take the role of a sanitation technician responsible for clearing its aftermath. That reversal is the game’s defining joke and its central task, making cleanup the focus instead of combat.
The work is hands-on. A mop and gloves help with the mess, while dispenser machines, a plasma laser and a sniffer tool offer other ways to tackle the facility. There is room to treat the setting less like a checklist, too: the game describes sandbox play for making a mess and playing with physics, and says you can save your game. Cleaning is therefore the main premise, but the design also makes room for untidy experimentation.
The format supports both solitary and social play: the store lists single-player as well as multiplayer and co-op, and the description specifically mentions inviting friends or coworkers to clean or make more mess. Split-screen co-op is also named.
