Vietnam War casts players as U.S. or Vietcong / N.V.A. forces in a sprawling conflict zone where other units move and fight independently. Rather than follow a central story, players receive missions shaped by local conditions, making the battlefield itself the organizing framework. Its map spans parts of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, with manually built bases and villages across the terrain.
Squad leadership and battlefield support are central to the design. Players can order their squad to follow, hold position, attack or change formation, then use radios to call for airstrikes, artillery, reinforcements or supplies. Tasks range from jungle searches and hilltop defense to village protection and operations against supply routes. Aircraft, helicopters, tanks, artillery and a broad selection of weapons give those assignments a combined-arms character, while hazards such as traps and hidden fortifications make movement through the landscape consequential.
With no story or main-mission progression, Vietnam War instead describes a mission-based sandbox shaped by faction choice, squad orders and the changing situation in the area.
