Vapour casts players as Charles, a psychotic warlock whose life of captivity and torture at the hands of a cult ends in execution. He avoids total damnation, but remains trapped between Purgatory and Hell, weakened and facing a route through demonic hordes. The story’s destination is revenge: Charles must confront his past and find a way back to Earth to face those who wronged him.
The game mixes horror with the pace of a classic first-person shooter, bringing action, puzzles and platforming into one design. Combat relies on spells, while interactive puzzles and tricky platforming make progress about more than fighting. Non-linear levels and exploration add room to investigate, with secrets alongside terrifying demons and deadly scares. The result is an experimental horror adventure built around both combat and environmental challenges, rather than a shooter premise alone.
Vapour is listed as single-player, so its play format is a solitary journey through Charles’s ordeal, not a shared multiplayer session. Its deliberately twisted story and supernatural setting give that combination a distinct identity.
