Valkyria Chronicles 4 follows Squad E of the Federation during the same war as the original Valkyria Chronicles. Commander Claude Wallace and his childhood friends face imperial troops, severe blizzards and the threat of the Valkyria, while the story tests the friendships holding the squad together. Its hand-drawn CANVAS presentation uses a watercolour-inspired style to frame this military drama, giving the campaign an expressive look rather than a purely realistic one.
Combat combines overhead turn-based strategy, role-playing elements and real-time third-person shooting in the returning BLiTZ system. Players can field classes such as the Grenadier, call on battleship support and contend with the Last Stand action, while battles unfold across larger maps with more units. Together, those elements make each engagement a mix of battlefield planning and direct unit control, not simply a sequence of menu-based orders. An orchestral score by returning series composer Hitoshi Sakimoto accompanies the squad’s journey.
The Complete Edition packages the full game with bonus DLC, including missions and content such as Squad E to the Beach, Expert Level Skirmishes and A United Front with Squad 7. On PC, the listing also notes 4K resolution support and customisable keyboard and mouse controls, alongside controller support.
