Until We Die is a single-player base-defense strategy game set in a subway station beneath a world threatened by creatures brought by meteorites. The goal is to keep the station standing through repeated attacks, which intensify from small groups of creatures to a large mutant horde. Ivan’s death or the destruction of the station’s power generator ends the effort early, making both its leader and its infrastructure central to survival.
Its distinctive approach puts Ivan directly in the action: rather than issue orders from a distant strategy interface, players run around the station and direct people who are reluctant to act without instruction. The work ranges from constructing and improving fortifications through research to organizing surface expeditions. Players can also attack mutant lairs to claim ground for farms and tents, while gathering supplies and finding food underground. Defense is therefore tied to managing people and resources, not just holding a line.
The pressure comes from keeping Ivan alive and the generator intact while expanding the station’s ability to withstand what arrives next. Exploration, construction and research all feed back into the same objective, protecting a precarious underground home.
