Unravel is a single-player puzzle platformer built around Yarny, a small figure made from one unraveling thread. Set among landscapes inspired by Northern Scandinavia, its wordless adventure follows Yarny as it seeks to reconnect a family’s long-lost memories. The thread gives the story a physical form: Yarny is also the bond tying those memories together.
That same yarn is the central puzzle tool. Players use it to swing between tree branches, cross gaps, and hitch a ride on a flying kite, with simple tools enabling more complex environmental puzzles. The design links traversal and problem-solving rather than treating the thread as decoration. Natural settings supply both beauty and danger, while the family narrative unfolds without dialogue.
Its appeal rests on combining physics-based platforming with environmental puzzles and a heartfelt story conveyed through movement and imagery.
