A kingdom periodically overwhelmed by Corruption sets the stakes in Unforgiving Trials: The Darkest Crusade. The story opens at an inn on the road east to the Capital, where a mysterious young lord seeks adventurers for a dangerous journey toward the old King. Players recruit knights, wizards, thieves and other companions to confront the horrors that have overrun the land. Its dark fantasy quest gives the adventure a clear purpose: reach the Capital and try to reclaim the kingdom.
Party building and tactical combat shape the journey. Choose four adventurers from a pool of more than twelve classes, then develop them through a customizable leveling system with different builds and playstyles. Battles use a fast-paced active-turn format, while more than 200 spells and abilities and challenging encounters give character choices a strategic dimension. Beyond combat, the party can explore villages, trade and interact with travelers, and encounter secrets along the way; the journey also leads through mountains and dungeons toward more than 30 bosses.
The game is listed as single-player, so its party refers to the adventurers assembled for the player’s campaign, not a multiplayer team. That format puts the emphasis on composing and developing a group for a solo RPG adventure, with exploration and encounters framed around the quest to overcome the curse. Its stated affection for old-school JRPGs and turn-based combat informs the design, while the active-turn battles give that influence a brisker, combat-focused expression.
