Umineko When They Cry - Question Arcs begins on Rokkenjima on October 4, 1986, as the Ushiromiya family gathers for its annual conference. Their aging patriarch has amassed a fortune, and his declining health turns the meeting toward inheritance. Competing expectations over that wealth create a tense starting point before the mystery takes a more threatening direction.
A rumored cache of ten tons of gold gives the family another reason to seek answers. An epitaph is said to reveal its location, but a suspicious letter from someone claiming to be a witch complicates the situation. Eighteen people are supposed to be on the island, and the possibility of an additional presence unsettles that apparently closed group.
Repeated murders turn those uncertainties into a conflict over how to explain what is happening. The story asks whether the culprit belongs to the known gathering or comes from outside it, and whether the answer is human or supernatural. Its isolated island and western-style mansion bring the inheritance dispute, hidden treasure and competing explanations together within one confined setting.
