Ultimus bellum is an indie tower-defense game framed as a fight to protect reality from invading hordes. Instead of placing conventional towers, you assemble a card deck and receive a random card with each wave. Its blend of tower defense, collectible-card choices and role-playing progression makes preparation part of the battle, while the changing card draw gives each wave a fresh tactical prompt.
The defenders develop through combat rather than a routine tower-upgrade purchase. Heroes have stats, levels and equipment, and the game describes role-based upgrades for heroes and other cards. Equipment ranges across several rarities and sets; items can come from enemy drops or crafting. Element combinations add further variety to damage, and an equipment store offers another part of the progression loop. Five acts, varied enemies and five difficulty levels provide the campaign structure, with challenge levels introducing unusual rules such as random spawns or waves.
For players drawn to tower defense with deck-building decisions and RPG-style hero development, the core appeal is the mix of wave-by-wave choices and longer-term equipment growth.
