Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts is a naval strategy and simulation game built around the age of the dreadnought. Its central appeal is not simply commanding ships in battle: players design warships, then see how their choices shape combat. The game describes a span of naval technology from 1890 into the mid-twentieth century, with historical vessels and speculative designs both part of its shipbuilding premise.
Design reaches beyond appearance. Players can choose hulls, turret layouts, armor schemes, funnels and towers, while weight distribution and internal upgrades affect speed, maneuverability and weapon effectiveness. Battles put those designs against opponents whose AI assesses engagement distance, firepower and armor, changes ammunition when appropriate, and may withdraw when badly damaged or outmatched. That link between construction and tactical consequences gives the game its distinctive focus.
The play format ranges from Custom Battles, which let players test ship combinations, to Naval Academy scenarios that set a tactical task requiring a ship or squadron design. Its campaign adds fleet management and strategic map decisions, with battles arising through task-force meetings or a mission generator.
