Trapped Souls casts players as a homunculus slave who escapes the mines and enters King Tarrius’ ancient crypt. A curse traps the souls of those who venture inside, but the protagonist is not bound in the same way and may be able to break it. The dark fantasy setup frames a third-person Looter Slasher adventure, with survival tied to tense, souls-like combat rather than a simple march through enemies.
Combat asks players to balance attacks, dodges and blocks while searching for stronger gear. Equipment can be improved or enchanted, with gems adding effects such as fire damage or poison resistance. The deeper dungeon trials raise the stakes: death costs the loot collected, and death on the final level also takes earned experience. Dice rolls shape the route to the boss, putting a choice before each challenge and leaving loot or danger behind the next door.
The game supports solo play and split-screen co-op for up to four players; each character has separate loot, gold and progression. Its story also belongs to the No King No Kingdom universe, set nearly a thousand years after that game’s events.
