Transience casts players as Eli Reed, an accountant-for-hire who becomes the target of a bounty and must uncover who placed it while trying to clear his name. The single-player campaign unfolds in New Houston in 2056, a city shaped by corporate power and wartime prosperity. Its premise turns the idea of balancing books into a dangerous assignment, with Reed forced to survive the forces he once worked around.
The action blends third-person stealth movement with the slower pacing of a first-person shooter. Objectives can be approached by stalking enemies, fighting through corridors, or combining caution and direct combat; the game also includes stealth gadgets and multi-approach maps. Weapons are customizable: attachments and core parts can transform weapon types, and players can find weapons and attachments in stashes throughout the environments. The Eclipse suit adds tools such as a distraction device, a Flash Pulse and night vision.
That focus makes Transience a distinctly solo experience rather than a game built around cooperative or competitive sessions. The design centers on how Reed navigates encounters and adapts his equipment, with the story and combat contained within the campaign.
