Touhou Witch’s Night Market puts Marisa in a precarious position: after losing the money she raised by selling magical items, she has stolen across Gensokyo and borrowed from Reimu. To repay the debt and evade Reimu’s pursuit, she enters magical item battles. That financial predicament gives the game’s strategy a clear narrative frame: Marisa is not collecting for its own sake, but assembling a way to overcome her opponents.
Across a run, players collect items and learn skills to build a construct, combining pieces with distinct attributes and effects. The game describes 158 items and 69 skills, making experimentation with combinations central to its appeal. A run is structured across ten days, each divided into four moments: daytime events can offer purchases, skills, experience, random fights, or changes to an item, while the nightly market brings weapon-specialist Touhou characters to challenge. Survive through Day 10 and an unexpected encounter follows on Day 11. The store says a game lasts around 15 minutes, giving this layered run-based format a compact stated timescale.
The design also has a longer-term challenge: clearing the game several times on Lunatic difficulty unlocks EXTRA MODE, where players can challenge historical data and import other players’ data.
