In Torchlight, the discovery of Ember has transformed a quiet mining town into the edge of a growing danger: the ore’s power attracts twisted creatures from the underground tunnels and caves. Players choose from three heroes and venture below town in search of treasure.
Each journey reshapes its surroundings. Torchlight’s seven environments are randomly generated with new monsters, treasure, puzzles, and items, giving exploration a changing mix of encounters and rewards. The design also makes room for diversions and practical support: fishing yields catches that help on the journey, while a chosen pet can carry items and fight alongside its hero. Feeding a pet the right fish can transform it into a more powerful ally.
Character progression has a legacy twist. Retiring a hero allows a prized item with unique attributes to pass to a new one, connecting successive adventures without making the journey a multiplayer feature. The game also includes TorchED, the tools used to create Torchlight, for changing gameplay or making new experiences to explore and share. Together, these systems distinguish its solo dungeon-running structure from a straightforward sequence of fights and loot.
