Tomb Raider: Anniversary revisits Lara Croft’s original adventure, sending her around the world in pursuit of the Scion, a legendary mystical artifact. Its journey through places such as Egyptian pyramids and the lost city of Atlantis is built around exploration: players search hidden spaces, scale imposing environments, uncover secrets and solve ancient puzzles. The reimagined story adds context to Lara’s pursuit without losing the series’ focus on discovery.
Movement and danger are tightly bound to those environments. Lara leaps across gaps, clings to rock ledges and swims through underground passages, while vaults and elaborate machinery challenge players to work out how ancient designers intended them to function. Combat mixes acrobatic movement with her trademark dual pistols, and the wilderness brings animal threats, including bats, wolves and bears. The game also features formidable creatures such as the T-Rex and Atlantean centaurs, with supernatural elements used sparingly to preserve a grounded feel.
The game is listed as single-player, so its globe-spanning puzzles, traversal and combat form a solo adventure rather than a shared session. Its distinctive appeal lies in combining platforming, environmental problem-solving and action within a journey shaped by an enhanced version of the Tomb Raider: Legend engine.
