Ticket to Ride® turns railway planning into a contest over routes between cities. Players receive destination tickets and train cards, then decide which tickets to keep and how to use their cards to claim connections. The map matters: ticket and card allotments can vary by map, while the central challenge is to link destinations efficiently and score points.
On each turn, players may draw train cards from either the face-up or face-down pile, draw another ticket, or spend cards to claim a route by placing train pieces along it. Completing tickets, linking destinations and building the longest route all contribute to scoring. When a player has three or fewer train pieces remaining, the last round begins; the player with the most points at the end wins.
Its formats let players approach the same route-building puzzle in different ways: single-player games pit players against adaptive AI, online play supports matchmaking and private games with friends, and couch play brings players together locally. Asynchronous games spread turns across multiple days, with notifications when it is a player's turn.
