Their Land casts the player as Jeremy, an inexperienced 19-year-old sent with fellow adventurers to investigate a mysterious island. A search for resources and possible places to build gives way to questions about what lies beneath the surface, and why no one has entered the island or returned from it. The first-person story combines exploration with danger, framing the journey around helping friends while trying to survive.
The island’s secrets are conveyed in part through artefacts that contain short stories, giving exploration narrative discoveries alongside its puzzles and shooting. The game’s premise also points to unseen creatures and peril as threats, rather than presenting the island as a simple expedition. Its story mode is described as lasting about three hours, making the central experience a focused narrative journey rather than an open-ended campaign.
That story mode is single-player, while a separate wave-based co-op mode supports up to three people and lets players compare results on a global leaderboard.
