The Zachtronics Solitaire Collection gathers seven solitaire games first designed as minigames for the studio’s releases from 2016 to 2022, then adds a new variant made specifically for this collection. Its appeal is variety within a familiar card-game framework: the collection includes games inspired by FreeCell and Klondike, alongside tile matching and more unusual rule sets. The games also feature updated 4K graphics.
The individual designs change what a solitaire session asks of you. Shenzhen Solitaire uses a three-color deck based on mahjong tiles, while Sigmar’s Garden matches tiles bearing alchemical symbols. In Cluj Solitaire, you may place cards wherever you want, but must be careful; Kabufuda Solitaire unlocks extra free cells when you make sets. Cribbage Solitaire turns play toward scoring with modified Cribbage rules and a Cold War aircraft recognition deck. Fortune’s Foundation, the collection-only addition, uses Tarot cards and presents a fortune when you win.
Its distinct variants offer different kinds of puzzle-solving, from matching symbols to arranging cards under unusual constraints, while keeping the overall focus on solitaire. That makes the collection less a single fixed ruleset than a sampler of Zachtronics’ card-game experiments.
