The Wonderful End of the World casts you as a puppet facing an absurdly specific apocalypse: a mythological demon with a fish’s head is going to eat the world. You cannot stop it, but you can rescue pieces of Earth’s “greatness” by absorbing them. The premise turns a cosmic disaster into a playful scavenger hunt, with the puppet itself serving as both collector and measure of progress.
At first, the puppet can take in only tiny objects. A marble becomes its head, jellybeans its hands, and even small creatures can be a threat. Gathering more makes the puppet grow, eventually allowing it to absorb buildings. The 12 locations give that escalating collection a surreal backdrop, from a candy shop with a blueberry river to a library where words have escaped their books and a city with an end-of-the-world parade. More than a thousand treasures are available to gather, alongside secret areas to uncover.
Three modes, Timed, Timeless, and Exploration, offer different ways to approach the same absorption-focused premise. The game’s distinctive appeal lies in watching a tiny, vulnerable puppet become a giant collector while racing, wandering, or exploring at the pace each mode allows.
