The Tale of a Common Man casts Jerrat as a farmer rather than a knight or lord, then places his personal journey alongside the destiny of a nation. Its central tension is intimate as well as grand: he must pursue his aim without ceasing to be the man his wife loves. That grounded premise gives the adventure its identity, with an ordinary person’s choices at the heart of the story.
Its role-playing systems let players shape both the challenge and Jerrat’s development. Choose Easy, Normal, Hard, or Legendary difficulty, decide whether enemies appear visibly, and, with invisible enemies selected, adjust their encounter rate from the menu. Each level also brings stat points to allocate, with harder modes granting more, so character growth is a set of player choices rather than a fixed path. Mouse use can be toggled, while movement supports either mouse or keyboard.
The journey includes seven characters plus one optional character, with room for five in the active party, adding a tactical dimension to the narrative. Seventeen side quests, secret rooms, and potion-making from ingredients and recipes give exploration and preparation their own place alongside the main tale. Its many customization options and story-focused structure make that distinction particularly relevant.
