The Sinking City Remastered revisits Frogwares’ open-world adventure in the half-submerged city of Oakmont, where supernatural forces have unsettled both the streets and the people who live there. You play a private investigator pursuing the truth behind the city’s affliction, in a story inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s horror. This edition brings the game to Unreal Engine 5, with visual enhancements intended to intensify Oakmont’s eerie atmosphere.
Investigation is central to the experience: cases can be approached and solved in different ways, and your actions can lead to different endings. Exploration ranges across the open world on foot, by boat, or in a diving suit, while an arsenal of 1920s weapons offers a means of confronting nightmarish creatures. Mental-health management adds another pressure as you try to separate the truth from the surrounding madness.
The remaster combines technical upgrades with adjustments to play. Its listed features include Lumen global illumination, ray tracing, 4K textures, added environmental detail, HDR, and support for FSR, DLSS, and Frame Generation. Frogwares also highlights changes to controls, combat, balance, crowds, and tutorials. Together, these changes frame a game built around freeform detective work, unsettling exploration, and the consequences of how each investigation unfolds.
