Set in an alternative-history kingdom near Venice in 1733, The Necromancer’s Tale casts you as a minor noble drawn toward necromancy in pursuit of knowledge and revenge. Its origin-story structure makes the rise into the dark arts gradual: power has to be earned through sneaking and study, while the central question is what its pursuit will do to you. The setting places courtly intrigue, emerging chemistry, superstition, and magic in uneasy proximity.
This is a story-rich, top-down RPG built around consequential social choices as well as combat. You investigate, negotiate, coerce, and flatter more than 180 characters, with a Trust system that can narrow your options and put a distrusted character at risk of trial or mob violence. An interactive, fully voiced backstory shapes your character’s background and skills, and those choices affect narrative options later. In battle, tactical turn-based encounters pit you and your allies, including undead minions, against natural and supernatural enemies; automatic combat resolution is also available.
The result is a single-player experience whose documented format centers on a substantial authored narrative, character interaction, and either played or automatically resolved battles. Multiple endings carry choices forward, giving the game’s themes of secrecy and the cost of power a personal, branching frame.
