The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu sends a party into a cursed jungle in search of riches and a legendary mound. Its Lovecraftian premise shapes more than the setting: a madness system distorts perception, blurring reality and illusion and leaving expedition members unsure what they can trust. That makes this an exploration game where uncertainty among the group is part of the design.
Before setting out, players prepare aboard a galleon, take gear from the captain in exchange for recovered treasures, divide weapons and equipment, and select a jungle area. On the mainland, spatialized voice chat is the stated means of coordinating against unpredictable threats. The deeper the party ventures, the greater the danger; abandoned-fort logbooks can also unlock new starting points for future expeditions. These systems give each outing a practical rhythm of preparation, exploration, and bringing back what the group can gather.
The game supports solo play as well as multiplayer co-op, with expeditions designed for up to four players.
