The Mortuary Assistant casts you as Rebecca Owens, a mortuary-science graduate apprenticing at River Fields Mortuary. A late-night call turns routine work into a supernatural crisis: the bodies are not ordinary, and the mortician tells Rebecca she cannot leave. Its horror grows from that collision between a practical workplace and an escalating threat, rather than from a setting detached from the character’s day-to-day duties.
Embalming remains central as you handle the deceased and complete other mortuary jobs, while demonic forces demand attention. The game also asks you to practice occult rituals to identify entities, piece together clues, and banish a demon. Those tasks connect its procedural work to its exorcism premise: learning what is happening means observing evidence and acting on it, not simply waiting for the story to explain itself.
The story is designed to unfold across multiple playthroughs, with each banished demon contributing only part of the puzzle. Rebecca’s history, the past of River Fields, and a hidden secret give repeated sessions a narrative purpose beyond completing individual jobs.
