The Long Drive is a single-player road-trip game set in an almost infinitely generated desert. Its emphasis is on driving, exploration, freedom, and immersion, with car maintenance and survival elements kept minimal. Rather than funneling the journey along a prescribed route, the design invites players to decide where to go and what to investigate.
The open approach shows up in specific details: there are no invisible walls, and the game does not prevent players from jumping small fences. A distant mountain can become a destination, with climbing possible if the player can manage it. Drivers can adjust or discard the mirrors, lean out of the car, and move closer to the radio or other things nearby. Fuel use is also described as restrained, with a full tank lasting approximately 500 kilometers.
This is a solo experience, so its play format is built around an individual journey through a broad, changeable landscape rather than coordinated group sessions. Its blend of open-road travel and light maintenance gives the desert drive its character.
