The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III follows Rean Schwarzer after he graduates from Thors Military Academy and becomes an instructor at its newly opened branch campus. There, he leads a new Class VII and prepares its students to meet threats facing the Empire. The story ranges into recently expanded parts of the Erebonian countryside, amid political changes and a plot involving the Ouroboros organization.
That premise connects an academy setting with a larger, ongoing saga: Rean must guide a new generation as the danger grows beyond the campus. The game introduces new characters alongside familiar faces, and its story is presented as part of a narrative developed across three titles. An interactive introduction is also intended to help new players catch up, giving the RPG an entry point into the series’ continuing events without losing sight of its established cast.
Combat draws on a system refined over decades, with Brave Order and the Break System offering additional possibilities in battle. Its focus is on Rean’s role as instructor, Class VII’s preparation, and confrontations with the forces threatening the continent.
