The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond the Horizon sets its story against a looming prophecy about the end of the Zemurian continent and humanity’s first foray into space. Van Arkride, Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin Graham are drawn together after a high-tech training invitation from Marduk, while the game follows their journeys across three intertwining story paths. Exploring detailed locations in the Calvard Republic and building connections with allies are part of that wider investigation into Zemuria’s secrets.
Combat shifts between action-focused Field Battles and turn-based Command Battles, letting players change from direct fighting to more deliberate attack planning. The system adds Shard Commands, which provide character- and holo-core-specific benefits through S-Boosts. In Field Battles, certain characters can use Awakening to gain temporary power; Van, for example, can transform into the Grendel. Z.O.C. slows enemies and boosts attack power and stun damage, creating another tactical option within the action combat.
Beyond its main story and battles, the Grim Garten offers a dungeon to tackle with a custom party assembled from allies across Calvard and beyond. Together, the linked story routes, location exploration, two combat modes, and party-building give the adventure several distinct ways to engage with its world.
