The Culling casts each match as a lethal island game show: contestants explore, scavenge, craft and set traps while trying to outlast everyone else. Its battle royale format supports solo play or teams of two, with no respawns after death and poison gas tightening the arena in the closing stages. That combination makes survival a balance between preparing carefully and committing to a fight before the round ends.
Combat leans heavily on melee, with jabs, charged swings, blocks and shoves, while weapons range from crafted knives to sledgehammers. Bows, blowguns and firearms offer alternatives, but scarce ammunition keeps ranged attacks from being an easy route to victory. Players can also use snares, mines and other traps, and the limited inventory makes choices about what to carry part of each match’s strategy. Noise matters too: sprinting, crafting and fighting can reveal a contestant’s position.
The core online mode is described as a sixteen-player contest, and private custom matches also allow up to sixteen participants. Before a match, contestants choose three perks to shape a combat, crafting or utility approach; during play, they can call in an airdrop, but doing so risks drawing rivals toward its supplies.
