The Butterfly Sign: Human Error is the second chapter of a first-person detective game, centered on Jack, the sole survivor of an attack on Memority hospital. With his memory damaged, Jack uses the experimental drug Rammex to revisit events through his own mind. The story’s unusual frame keeps him confined to a hospital bed in the present, while most of the gameplay unfolds in reconstructed memories, where he searches for clues and tries to identify those responsible.
Investigation combines evidence gathering, comparison of facts, puzzles and choices in non-linear dialogue. The chapter’s multilevel-memory idea gives those choices a distinctive setting: memories can contain knowledge of other memories, and the description says players retain freedom of action within them. Some recollections also form loops, sending Jack back through a location until he solves the spatial puzzle. Decisions affect the story’s outcome, while difficulty options range from a story-focused setting to a hardest level that restarts the game after one death.
That structure makes Human Error a solitary, story-led experience rather than a multiplayer activity. Exploring Memority, following clues and working out how to escape a loop all serve the same detective premise, as Jack tries to recover the truth hidden in his mind.
