The Bard’s Tale IV: Barrows Deep is a single-player fantasy RPG about confronting an evil that has waited in the shadows. Its adventure moves through towns, forests, rolling hills and icy wastes, as well as dark dungeons. Traps and mysteries give exploration challenges beyond combat, and ancient Elven weapons hold secrets that players can uncover by examining them.
Combat is turn-based and tactical, with positioning, strategy and combos central to overcoming enemies. Players can build characters from four archetypes, each with its own skills, and recruit or create heroes to form a party. Adjustable settings cover options such as saving, mini-maps and waypoint markers. Legacy Mode is included for returning fans, while riddles provide another kind of challenge alongside battles and exploration.
Its combination of exploration, character development, tactical fights and puzzles shapes the experience around individual progress through the adventure.
