The Ascent casts you as a worker trapped in Veles’s sprawling cyberpunk metropolis, where the corporation that owns your district suddenly shuts down. With survival at stake, the story sends you into an investigation of what caused the collapse. Its setting is more than neon scenery: the arcology’s districts range from deep slums to luxury heights, giving exploration a sharp contrast between the people living beneath the corporate order and its elevated worlds.
Combat is built around adaptable, twin-stick-style shooting choices described through aiming high or low, changing weapons, using lethal gadgets, and taking cover. Destructible environments can be turned to your advantage, while new enemy encounters call for tactical adjustments. RPG systems add another layer: level-up skill points, cyberware tailored to a preferred playstyle, and augmentations offer ways to shape a character and approach fights. Exploration also brings new allies, enemies, and loot, joining the game’s action and role-playing elements in one continuous setting.
The game supports a complete solo run as well as local or online co-op for up to three friends, so its moment-to-moment gunfights can be tackled alone or shared with a group.
