Terraformers is a single-player strategy game about establishing settlements on Mars and meeting the needs of a growing population. Leaders travel to unfamiliar places in search of useful resources and natural wonders, and cities can be founded in craters or lava tubes. Since the planet is generated differently across playthroughs, each new attempt offers a changed setting for those decisions.
The core planning loop uses project cards: each turn begins with a selection of proposed buildings, and players shape city layouts to find productive combinations. Settlements may grow into idealized metropolises or industrial communities run by robots. The scope also extends beyond urban growth, with large-scale terraforming actions such as reviving volcanoes, building space mirrors, or changing the poles. Introducing life adds another layer: species have particular requirements and can provide strategic benefits, tying ecological choices to the broader effort to transform the planet.
Its distinctive mix of exploration, city planning, and planetary engineering gives those figures context, while the changing map makes each playthrough a different strategic challenge.
