Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance casts you as a commander in the Founders, a force formed from the remnants of the US military, fighting Legion’s synthetic machine network. Its single-player campaign follows an effort to thwart Legion and protect humanity’s survivors. Rather than treating each engagement as an isolated clash, the game carries your army from mission to mission across large strategic maps, tying battlefield decisions to a longer struggle.
That continuity makes force preservation and preparation central to the tactical challenge. Resources are limited, units can be recruited and trained, and troops can receive new skills, weapons, and equipment. Battles use vehicles, infantry, drones, and other units, while damage to armour, components, and hull structures can affect survival. Destruction is tactical, too: physics-based building demolition can alter the battlefield, particularly in urban areas. Choices also carry campaign consequences, influencing relations with factions and characters and determining which missions become available.
Outside the campaign, skirmish and online multiplayer offer a different setting for the same strategic contest. Players can choose the Founders, Movement, or Legion and face AI or human opponents in one-versus-one and two-versus-two battles.
