Tempest: Pirate Action RPG casts players as seafarers navigating dangerous waters filled with merchants, rival pirates, a mysterious cult and mythical creatures. Its world spans three regions and dozens of islands, with quests ranging from ordinary jobs to multilevel “legends” tied to valuable artifacts. Sailing unfolds in real time, and a global map is available for those who want it rather than being required for navigation.
Sea battles are the game’s central draw, built around an arsenal that includes cannons, mortars and flamethrowers, plus special tools for preparing a ship for different purposes. Mystical crystals add stranger options, such as evading cannon fire or calling down meteorites, while enormous monsters bring encounters beyond ordinary ship combat. Players can also customize a vessel’s appearance and upgrades, and develop pirates in their crew from inexperienced sailors into skilled hands. Trading offers a less combative route: buy goods cheaply and resell them, or turn to plunder and attacks on forts.
Tempest is designed primarily for solo play, with multiplayer as an option rather than a requirement.
