Team Sonic Racing turns the familiar Sonic cast into a team-based arcade racer. Rather than treating every kart as a solo effort, it asks racers to cooperate: teammates can share power-ups and speed boosts, help one another with team moves, and build toward a Team Ultimate. The aim is to win as a group while still jostling with rival teams.
Vehicle and character choices shape that competition. The roster draws 15 playable characters from across the Sonic universe, divided among Speed, Technique, and Power types. Players can customize vehicle appearance and handling, while 14 Wisps provide offensive and defensive items for getting past opponents. That combination gives races a mix of team support, item use, and individual tuning rather than relying on speed alone.
The game offers online multiplayer and local co-op, with races supporting up to 12 players and split-screen play for up to four. Its formats range from Grand Prix and Exhibition races to Time Trial and Team Adventure, which adds a story experience that introduces characters and basic features.
